This week is our final week of teaching. Eugenie has given us a review of the topics she taught in this course. We are working hard on our group projects. At the same time, we are preparing our essay topics.
Things have learned:
Digital Literacy: refer to the capability to use digital technology and knowing when and how to use it (Rubble & Bailey, 2007 cited in lecturer note). For example, some bus stops in Hong Kong have a monitor to show the bus's estimated arrival time and introduce this function on the mobile app. Letting people know the technology function and usage.
Digital Divide: refer to the consequences of lacking Internet Connections Technologies (ICT). There are three types of the divide: (1) with/ without access to ICT (2) with/ without knowledge to use ICT (3) usage quality of ICT The digital divide is a barrier to the third world to catch up with the development of the first world.
Online surveillance: refer to the monitoring activities of computers and networks, usually by governments or internet service providers (ISP). Online surveillance raised the public to care about their online privacy rights.
Piggyback Marketing: refer to borrowing the trending things in society to do advertisement. The rapid development of social media made piggyback marketing more successful.
Global economy (1): the world is transmitting to Industry 4.0; Internet of Things (IoT) would become more popular in the manufacturing and warehouse systems.
Global economy (2): The social and economic power is shifting to consumers, e-marketers need to be familiar with the medium of communication in order to reach the customer efficiently.
Online shopping: the consumption pattern becomes more Goal Oriented. Consumers buy products with a purpose and go for specific websites and more information to compare. We see the leader on online shopping platforms, Amazon, is trying to innovate a new retail shopping experience. Like the coming Amazon Style in Los Angeles.
Social web & Online identity: refer to member community websites, i.e. Facebook and Reddit. Web 2.0 allows everyone to create and exchange information. As long as people spend more time online, real and online life identities would be blurring. As people can build multiple identities online, someone would use fake identities to commit crimes.
Big data: as our lives become more digitalised, like online payments smart TVs, our personal data were stored at the servers already. The government or corporations could analyse those data and make predictions of human behaviour. People are not aware of protecting their digital footprint since people lack knowledge about how the information will be used.
Online Piracy & Copyright: Web 2.0 allows user to share their content on the internet, but the copyright is hard to be verified. The privacy actions are infringing on the copyright of the owners. So that YouTube took the action to protect the copyright.
Creative Commons (CC): encourages openly licensed creativity. People can share and use the contents for free by attributing the owners under CC licenses.
Our group project is in the final stage of work. We have almost finished the composing work of the website view; then, we will be move on to the mobile view. Also, we are preparing the ChatBot for our website too.
Next week will be the consultation of our individual essay and the final presentation on the group project. Summerise on the experiences on the last presentation, we need to beware of the time control on the coming presentation.
