Due to our lecturer's illness this week, the school has decided to move the class online for safety reasons. Also, Eugenie has postponed our individual project presentations to next week and will be held on Zoom. As this opportunity, Eugenie told us that nowadays we need to be equipped with online presentation skills.
Things have learned :
Digital footprint: the tracking record of our digital activities such as social media and search engines. We have uploaded our personal information like names and photos to register for online services, those data would be our digital footprints.
Digital identity: is the virtual representation of a person. People do not need to use their real names on the internet; a fake digital identity could lead to scams. So two-steps authentication system has been developed to protect both users and providers on e-banking, e-commerce or other online services.
Medium is the message (Marshall McLuhan, 1964): The society has just focused on the contents (messages) carried by the medium but wasn't aware of the medium themselves. McLuhan believed that "medium shapes and controls the scale and form of human association and action." In other words, technology would change society as communication ways change the information flow.
HCI (Human-computer interaction): a concept of UX design. In the internet world, people are not actually interacting with people; instead, they interact with the computer. The key design concept is the user's usability. The UI & UX designs should be "easy to learn, easy to use".
Technological & Social determinism: it is an argument on using technological innovations. Technology helps humans improve their lives and come with some drawbacks to society. The use of technology should be debatable. I think the video-assistant referee system (VAR) used in football games is still an argument.
Knowledge monopolies: referring to the knowledge control action of the giant information companies, i.e. Google & Facebook. Who have the controlling power of the mass/social media can influence reality by defining what knowledge is legitimate (or "real").
I am on the final stage of my personal website. During the time, I kept recording my working progress and posted it on my blog.
About our group project, as our members are focusing on the individual project this week, we agreed that pause the work this week. We planned to hold a meeting after the individual project submission to continue discussing and finalising the design works.
